Building 3D Worlds with Vicki Hernandez Olmo

For some, the idea of creating a new world from scratch would seem daunting. But for Granada-born 3D artist Vicky Hernandez Olmo, envisioning, designing and bringing 3D environments to life is just another day at the office. Although her tenure with Supersphere has only just started this past October, she has already fallen in lockstep with her Supersphere crew members, and her addition to the team is already being noticed in recent projects.

While taking a few minutes from her day to connect on an overseas call, Hernandez Olmo shared her excitement about the new role at Supersphere.

At Supersphere, I have an amazing job. Everyday is creative and stimulating and I’m consistently tasked with design and creating all kinds of 3D worlds for all sorts of virtual scenarios. I can’t say enough about the rest of the team – I really love working with them. The work is not just exciting, but it’s challenging too, and I’m given the opportunity to express my creativity every day.

Before accepting the offer to join the team at Supersphere, Vicky, as she is referred to around the office, was a freelance 3D artist in Granada, a small town in Andalucia in the south of Spain where she was born and raised. “Most of my freelance work was in the video game industry, creating characters, environments, etc., but I also found myself doing 3D projects for construction and advertising firms as well.” In late 2021, Hernandez had the opportunity to connect with the Supersphere team, knowing their extensive work in the VR space, and shortly thereafter found herself accepting a job offer and immediately tackling an assorted variety of projects on the Supersphere calendar.

By the new year, Vicky dove head first into huge ArcRunner design projects with Young Thug and The Chainsmokers

“I was absolutely floored by the work we did with Young Thug and his performance in ArcRunner.  It was amazing, but there is so much talent around the team at Supersphere, that it seems like every week we’re doing something innovative with influential artists.”

Hernandez has her fingers crossed for the Red Hot Chili Peppers to show up on the upcoming projects, but regardless of the performer, Hernandez is always excited for the next Supersphere immersive production. “The Foo Fighters broadcast after the Super Bowl with Meta was one of the best concerts I’ve ever seen in VR, but I just want to keep growing as an artist and the team here gives me that opportunity. Together, we face each project as a new adventure and a new challenge.”

As for what fills Herndandez Olmo’s time when she’s not plugged in, well, you might have a good chance seeing her walking around Andalucia, iPad in hand and Pink Floyd or her Spotify playlist of choice in her headphones, finding her next inspiration.  “I go everywhere with my Ipad. I’m always drawing or taking pictures on the streets of stuff that I feel I can use as a source to inspire me in the future.”

No matter what the next project that may come across her desk is, Vicky lets us know that she thinks she found a team with Supersphere that will give the best opportunity to grow as an artist. “I believe that we are really taking important steps daily for the immersive world and I know it’s only going to get bigger.  We will continue creating experiences that people will remember for a long time.”
